Ray Community Group Newsletter Summer 2012

Ray Community Group Newsletter

Summer            Vol Number 7            Issue No 2                 May 2012

The Ray Community Group would like to thank the committee of Ray School for the use of Ray School over the last number of years to host our various community events. The Ray Community Group would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the huge contribution that having Ray School has made to our Community Group as without it we wouldn’t have been able to develop Ray Community Group into the active community group that it is today.

Clean Up at Ray Community Centre

There will be a clean up at Ray Community Centre this weekend Saturday 2ndJune and Sunday 3rdJune if necessary to get it ready for opening. Anyone wishing to help please come along or contact any committee member for details.

TUS Workers

The Ray Community Group is delighted to continue to have the assistance of Dessie Crerand and Sean Griffin in their  roles of Caretaker and Office Administrator under the TUS scheme until the autumn. We are delighted to have them both on board and they are both doing vital work in helping to get the Ray Community Centre ready for opening.

Further Applications

The Ray Community Group submitted a further application to LEADER in Feb 2012 for funding to install a lift, kitchen, signage and a car park and hope to hear from them soon.

In May the Ray Community Group also forwarded an application for the 2012 Sports Capital Programme from the National Lottery for sporting equipment for the main hall, drainage of the football pitch, resurfacing of the tennis court and a new fence for the tennis court.

Request from Community Members

As part of our long term fundraising strategy the Ray Community Group committee have decided to concentrate on one main fundraiser and we are asking  everyone in the local and surrounding community to consider contributing €5 per week to the ‘Take Your Pick’ which takes place every Sunday night in the Beachcomber Bar in Rathmullan. This would entail picking 3 numbers and these numbers would be entered weekly for the ‘Take Your Pick’ draw where you have 3 chances of winning the jackpot.

This will have 2 benefits

1.  Allow the committee to plan for the long term  financial security of the Community Centre

2. Give participants the chance of winning the jackpot  which is currently €275 and has been won 13 times since ‘Take Your Pick’ commenced in October 2010.

We would particularly like to thank everyone who has signed up to our database and would be delighted to hear from other members of the community who would like to participate as the Community Centre is for everyone to avail of.

Classes and Activities

The committee are now interested in hearing from community members with ideas for classes or activities for the new Community Centre so that we can plan for September.  Please contact any committee member with details
